The Metals Technology Certificate allows you to complete 5 of our metals courses for the price of 4. The individual courses would usually cost £2,250 together, but through the certificate, the courses total £1,800.
It is a coordinated programme of training courses, intended primarily for technical staff who are routinely involved in the processing or testing of metals-based products. It is also suitable as technical background for staff in engineering and commercial functions.
To gain the certificate, you must complete any five courses of your choosing from the list below:
Carbon & Alloy Steel
Principles of Heat Treatment
Fundamentals of Metallurgy
Metals Processing & Manufacturing Technologies
Metallurgical Failure Analysis and Prevention
Quality & Quality Control
Metallography & Microscopy
All courses will be delivered online over two half day sessions on consecutive days.
You will be contacted within a few days of making the payment to confirm the courses you wish to attend.
Knowledge gained from each of the taught courses is assessed via multiple choice examinations. Results from these will be aggregated and successful candidates will be issued with a University of Sheffield Certificate of Achievement, with a PASS (>40%), CREDIT (>50%), MERIT (>60%) or DISTINCTION (>70%). (Note that this does not constitute a formal, accredited qualification).
Who should attend?
Although there are no formal entry requirements, it is recommended that candidates have GCSE grade A, B or C and preferably A levels in maths and physics/chemistry.
