Joe was honoured with an honorary doctorate in 2008 in recognition of his contribution to the cultural life of the city.
The painting depicts the University of Sheffield both past and present in Joe's inimitable and colourful style. Joe is a former miner whose artistic works draw on his personal experiences and background to create a wealth of images of the life and people of South Yorkshire. His largest work to date - a vast mural depicting the history of Sheffield - dominates the main corridor at the Weston Park Museum.
To accompany Joe's latest piece we have reprinted a very limited number of the first from Joe's series of University prints. Sales of these prints will support the provision of scholarships for gifted students in need of financial support, and to help the University's Alumni Foundation which provides grants for student clubs and societies to enrich the life of the University.
These prints, measuring 19 x 17 inches are unframed and packed in protective cardboard tubes.
