Detailed Description
This series shows the relevance of statistics to the science subjects and teaches the basic statistical methods required.
'Real life' situations are used to illustrate the relevance of statistics in a variety of disciplines, while animated graphics help explain the theoretical principles and processes involved.
Exercise pauses are provided for students at regular intervals. The underlying theme of these modules is that variablility is a fact of scientific life and that statistics enables you to handle this variablility and draw suitable inferences from it.
Module 2: Describing data covers qualitative and quantitative data, dot plots, bar charts and histograms, summary measures and characteristic values (mode, median and mean), the spread of a distribution (quartiles, inter-quartile range and standard deviation), and an introduction to normal distribution. (24 mins)
