A video produced by the Economic and Social Research Council's Growing Older Programme, provides an insight into the experiences of women from different ethnic groups as they grow older.
It highlights what active ageing means to them and factors affecting their quality of life. It also documents older women's views on services and their desire to have a say in the policymaking process.
Filmed over a two year period, from March 2000 to Feb 2002, the video documents how the research was carried out and what it found. Participants in the project feature on the video discussing their lives and daily activities and also what stops them from participating and 'having a say' such as ageist stereotyping, racial prejudice, and lack of cultural awareness.
The video highlights the older women's view on services and their involvement in the research as members of discussion groups and as trained interviewers and presenters working alongside the project team. 2002, 26' 31"
