Detailed Description
This series of programmes is aimed at helping medical students during the microbiology stage of the Basic Clinical Sciences Module.
Each programme identifies one of the following common clinical problems and demonstrates how diagnostic microbiology can help.
Programme 5: Meningitis (1997, 16 mins)
Each programme follows a dramatised case study of a patient with the clinical problem. The patient’s history is recorded, a physical examination made and clinical specimens taken. Relevant laboratory tests are demonstrated, showing examples of growths of organisms resulting from the tests. Each programme concludes by revisiting the patient, describing the treatment prescribed and the probable outcome of such a case.
The programmes are designed to be integrated with benchside microscopy carried out by the student, with tutor input.
