Borehole Drilling: Drilling to sample and monitor groundwater (USB)

Drilling to sample of monitor groundwater

£35.00

Description

This programme combines animation with practical demonstration to explain the processes involved in borehole drilling in a detail not usually possible.

Detailed Description

This programme observes the drilling of two 60m boreholes into mixed measures and sandstone beds, using Rotary Percussion Drilling. An analysis of 1m interval samples shows how the actual geology differed from the published geological maps. The holes are artesian, and the fitting of piezometer tubing and the subsequent capping of the holes is shown. The programme ends by showing field instrumentation being used to investigate aquifer properties and to measure the chemical properties of the groundwater.

Suitable for all students and practitioners in earth sciences, engineering geology and civil engineering. 1997, 20 mins.
