Detailed Description

Jill is phobic about going to the dentist. David Simons, dentist and hypnotist, is hoping to work out why. He considers the theory of behavioural desensitisation and conditioned response relearning as it applies to the dental phobic patient. He works with Jill, just such a patient, demonstrating the importance of the patient’s control and the ‘positive anchor’. As they work through a hierarchy of unpleasant dental situations, we see the progressive development of pleasant learned responses. His encouragement throughout is tempered by warnings about the use of the method. Jill is phobic about going to the dentist. David Simons, dentist and hypnotist, is hoping to work out why.
