Living Machines - Friday and Saturday Social Events

Description

Social events on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th June for delegates of Living Machines 2025

As part of the Living Machines 2025 conference at the University of Sheffield, we are organising two extra social events on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th July.

On Friday evening there will be a post-conference party at the Punch Bowl, 236 Crookes, Sheffield S10 1TH. Food will be available to purchase from the Punch Bowl or the many nearby restaurants. The evening will include a live performance by the Algorithmics – a rock band which includes several of the conference organisers! – from 20.30.

On Saturday there will be a trip to the Peak District National Park. A coach will be provided, with a place on the coach costing £10. The itinerary for the trip is as follows:-

•    10.00 – coach will pick up passengers from outside the Sir Frederick Mappin Building, Mappin Street, Sheffield S1 3JD.
•    10.30 – attendees will have the choice of which activity they would like to undertake for the morning:
o    A walk along Froggatt Edge, with beautiful views of the Peak District and Derwent Valley. This will include the opportunity for a pub lunch (you can view the menu for an idea of prices here: https://www.chequers-froggatt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/MENU-FOR-WEBSITE.pdf ) , or you can bring your own food with you.
o    A visit to Chatsworth House, a famous and historic stately home. You will be able to purchase food at the cafe or you can bring your lunch. Please note that you will need to pay for your entry to Chatsworth on arrival; this is £32 for the house and gardens, or £18 for the gardens alone.
•    14.00 – coach will pick up all attendees and take them to the village of Castleton. You will be able to visit Peveril Castle, go for a walk and/or visit the local pubs.
•    16.45 – coach will pick up passengers for return to Sheffield
•    17.30 – arrive back at Sir Frederick Mappin Building

You also have the option to join the first part of the trip and return by public transport at 2pm by taking the train from Grindleford Station.
