ECREA Radio and Sound Conference, Sheffield 8-9 September 2025

The 8th ECREA Radio and Sound Conference, titled “Cog in a Wheel? Radio and Sound in the Changing Mediascape,” will bring together scholars, researchers, and practitioners to take a fresh look at how radio has evolved—and continues to evolve—within today’s fast-moving global media landscape.

It’s a chance to reflect on how radio has shifted from being a fixed format to becoming a flexible, responsive part of a much broader media ecosystem, constantly adapting to political, social, economic, and technological changes.

This year’s conference focuses on how radio has moved beyond its traditional boundaries to become an adaptive and resilient part of the broader media ecosystem. As the media environment continues to change—shaped by social, political, economic, and technological forces—radio has found new ways to remain relevant and responsive.

Participants from across disciplines will consider how radio functions as a "cog" within this dynamic system, reflecting on its transformation over time and across global contexts. The programme will highlight both the historical significance and the ongoing reinvention of radio and sound media.
