Aims and Objectives
This highly interactive course is aimed at helping technical staff explore their own career development, based on self-awareness of strengths and skills and openness to the opportunities available to them.

Aim – to introduce the SOAR model of career development and encourage participants to take a positive and proactive approach to career planning, by increasing self-awareness, recognising opportunities, making positive decisions and reflecting on results

The course will not outline a specific career pathway or promotion plan, as this will differ between institutions.

Outcomes
By the end of the session participants will be able to:

Define what career and success means to them, based on personal experience, values and aspirations 

describe 4 stages of career development and planning, using the SOAR model

recognise the importance of self-awareness in career planning

capitalise on their current situation and evaluate future opportunities

make decisions based on personal motivations, abilities and aspirations
