Description

This course will explore powder diffraction refinement techniques used to analyse the data obtained and is a basic introduction to these techniques and their application.

This is a one day course which will take place on 17th September 2024. The course will be held at the Royce Discovery Centre on Portobello Street in Sheffield and run by Dr Lewis Owen. Participants are expected to attend in person, there is NOT an hybrid or online option.

X-ray powder diffraction is one of the most common in-house characterisation methods, used to provide information on a host of different samples including metals, ceramics, battery materials and pharmaceuticals. This course will explore powder diffraction refinement techniques used to analyse the data obtained. This course is basic introduction to these techniques and their application. It will include a strong practical element, with guided walkthroughs and trial examples. Information on the underlying theory of powder diffraction will also be provided as a series of virtual lectures in advance of the session.

Participants are expected to bring a laptop. There are some pre course activities which will need to be completed prior to the 17th September. Details of this will be sent in due course.
