The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sheffield comprises:
- 7 departments: Automatic Control and Systems Engineering, Chemical and Process Engineering,
Civil and Structural Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic and Electrical Engineering,
Engineering Materials, and Mechanical Engineering
- 2 interdisciplinary programme areas: Aerospace Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering
In 2007/08 almost 700 FTE staff worked in the Faculty, 200 as academics, 280 as researchers and 210
in technical and administrative roles.
Of our almost 2,500 FTE students, 68% were studying for undergraduate degrees, 14% for postgraduate taught degrees and 18% for postgraduate research degrees. The total teaching-related income of the faculty was £18.8M and total research-related income was £39.3M. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise 67% of our research was found to be Internationally Excellent or World Leading, While in the 2008 National Student Survey 93% of our graduates expressed satisfaction with their course, placing the Faculty equal first in the UK.
